In the final attempt the Brit set fastest lap-time with 1:29.607, held a gain of 0.452 seconds over team-mate Nico Rosberg.
Sebastian Vettel will start from third on the grid ahead of his team-mate Mark Webber. Another local hero Paul di Resta will start from third row beside with Toro Rosso’s Daniel Ricciardo.
Adrian Sutil will start from seventh ahead of Lotus duo Romain Grosjean. Top drivers’ title contender Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen will start from ninth on the grid. Ferrari Fernando Alonso took completed the top in the qualifying grid.
Another big disappointment for McLaren in front of its home spectators, Jenson Button will start from 11th and his team-mate Sergio Perez start from 14th, who lost set-up time due to a puncture in third practice.
