Rosberg takes surprise pole, Mercedes reserved front row for Spanish GP


Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg claims surprise pole position for 2013 Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix. His team-mate Lewis Hamilton hinted Mercedes single lap pace in Q2 final running and the German easily settle his third career pole and second for this season.

Lewis Hamilton on pole in Chinese Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg on pole in Bahrain Grand Prix and again the German claims pole for Spanish GP, it is the third Pole position for Mercedes in a row for this season. Rosberg ends up two-tenths clear of team-mate Hamilton, guarantee a Mercedes lock-out on the front row.

Reigning world champion Sebastian Vettel will start from third on the grid ahead of Lotus Kimi Raikkonen. The Ferrari duo Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa will start from the third row on the grid, fifth and sixth in that order.

Lotus’s Romain Grosjean took seventh place on the grid ahead of Red Bull’s Mark Webber. McLaren improved qualifying pace and their rookie Sergio Perez set ninth ahead of Force India’s Paul di Resta.
