Jenson Button: McLaren qualifying speed should improve

2009 World Champion and Melbourne race victor Button pressure that his McLaren team must pick up its qualifying pace if it trusts to enjoy more victories in coming up Grand Prix. Regardless of winning by twelve seconds at Albert Park, the team's tempo on Saturdays is at present considerably slower than that of Red Bull and Ferrari. Captivating the race through a masterly plan of switching onto dry weather, Slick tyres - on a drying track - earlier than his rivals, Button jumped from sixth to second place before inheriting the lead following Sebastian Vettel's retirement.

However, the Englishman did so after qualifying three quarters of a second off pole position 24 hours earlier. We're not in the place to go into the next two or three races and walk away with victories; the McLaren driver is quoted as saying by the BBC. Outright pace in qualifying is something we are lacking, so it's an area we desperately need to work on.

We've got to enjoy this moment and think that we've got some good points when we're not the quickest; when you can get good points finishes like this, it really does mean a lot to you when you don't have a car which you think is quick enough to win races every weekend, but we've got to work on the areas where we think we're weak.
