Silverstone unveiled new race Circuit

Silverstone has officially launched the new track design which will play host to this year's British GP. The motor sports ground layout, which will involve contestant piloting a new loop between Abbey and Brooklands, will also be used for this year's MotoGrand Prix race, which moves from Donington Park. With the fresh sector of track having been designed in particularlly for motorcycle racing, circuit owner the British Racing Drivers' Club (BRDC) also elected to race Formula 1 on the new section, which will engage the lap time being increased and lap amounts therefore being drop off.

In addition to the customized track, the Northamptonshire venue has also build a brand-new grandstand on the start/finish straight, overlooking a new run-off area suitable for MotoGP, and raised banking and seating areas at the Maggots/Becketts complex.

This is a new circuit for a new generation of people to enjoy motorsport and we believe it will offer a big challenge to drivers as well.

British Racing Drivers' Club Chairman and 1996 World Champion Damon Hill said to guests with drivers Mark Webber, David Coulthard and Johnny Herbert as well as F1 team representatives Christian Horner, Nick Fry and Mike Gascoyne plus a selection of the BBC television on-screen team.
