Mercedes tested passive DRS in German GP practice


The Silver Arrows tested for the first time this season, the passive DRS system on a race weekend. Main exciting was the view of the rear of Nico Rosberg in the opening practice. The local hero started on Friday practice with a passive DRS in German Grand Prix.

Last Grand Prix at Britain Mercedes proved many technical developments. And only a week following Silverstone another new update was take out.

Early Mercedes had tested passive DRS concept in 2012 Young Drivers Test. But it never worked properly.

Of additional slots at the air box air is directed to the rear of the car. Above a certain speed, a valve is to carry the current from the bottom towards the rear wing. By the stall and fall of the output of the air resistance and resulted in increases in the ideal case, the top speed.

"We wanted to try out the system at Young Drivers Test at Silverstone," said Ross Brawn.
