New Pirelli will not roll out in British Grand Prix
Pirelli confirmed that new Pirelli will not race in British Grand Prix. The Formula 1 tyre supplier initially planned to launch the new tyre in Canadian Grand Prix but could not get common agreement from all the teams and so agreed to supply the new tyres in practice before plan to roll out a full introduction for British Grand Prix.
During the wet condition on Friday practice in Canadian GP, few teams' was testing mileage on the new formation.
Pirelli motorsport boss Paul Hembery confirmed that new compound will not roll out in British Grand Prix but said his engineers had come up with a new bonding process for the current tyres that should reduce the risk of damage.
"We are not going to race with the new tyre as we did not get much of a chance to test it here [in Canada]. We have some internal specification changes - process changes - that we think will go the full way to curing the delamination issue that we have seen. Paul Hembery told Autosport.
"That is good from many points of view, as it means teams will be working with the same tyre they started the year with. But it is probably not good for some teams that are struggling with the front tyre."
