Formula 1 2011 season tyre supplier, a name change for the BMW Sauber team and rules concerning the amount of fuel drivers must have in their cars post qualifying are all up for discussion at the World Motor Sport Council conference on Wednesday.The powers that be are meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, and the 2011 tyre supplier is anticipated to be the main talking point. Teams have all but reached contracts with Pirelli, but the FIA has made it clear that they have the final say on the topics.
According to Autosport, 'Approval is also expected to be given to a host of other regulations that have already been signed off by F1 working groups and the F1 Commission, which met on Monday. These are believed to include rules to introduce moveable rear wings in 2011, getting rid of the moveable front wings, confirming a ban on F-ducts, and a tweak to the safety car regulations.'
The Safety Car issue was pushed onto the agenda following the Monaco Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher was slapped with a 20-second post-race penalty for passing Fernando Alonso on the final lap. Confusion reigned as race control messages said 'Track Clear' and the green flags and lights were shown by the marshals.
Rules over post-qualifying fuel in cars will also come under the microscope following Lewis Hamilton's controversial Canadian GP pole position. The McLaren driver was ordered to stop on the circuit after Q3 as he was short of fuel. However, as there are no clear regulations on how much fuel must be in the tank for a test sample, Hamilton walked away with a reprimand and fine for exceeding the maximum time set to return to the pits.
The WMSC will also discuss the possibility of taking action against USF1 following their failure to make the 2010 grid while the BMW Sauber team will finally get official permission to get rid of the BMW tag following the German manufacturer's decision to pull out of the sport.
