Chief race engineer Alan Permane believes that, while Mercedes GP may high finished top up the order last race in Turkish GP, Renault currently have the speed improvement over the reigning World Champions previously known as Brawn. Kubica was Renault's top finisher in Turkish GP, coming home sixth and at the back both Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg, although Permane believes that this is due more to the silver arrows' qualifying hard works.
"Our performance in Turkey suggests that our race pace is better than Mercedes, but they are just ahead of us on qualifying pace, and the same was true in Barcelona," Renault's Chief Race Engineer commented.
"When I spoke to Robert (Kubica) after the race; he felt that Rosberg was holding him up and that he could have gone quite a bit quicker, so it's down to us to make sure we do a better job in qualifying so that we can get ahead of them and exploit the full potential of our car."
