Mercedes GP revealed radical new engine cover

Mercedes GP has revealed a brand-new engine cover which should help decrease drag levels from the Spanish GP onwards. The latest addition, which sees the air intake dramatically relocate, is part of a major update for the team's MGP W01 car this weekend.

The title-defending team lies fourth in the standings and 49 points off leaders McLaren following the season-opening 'flyaway' races although the Brackley-based squad - which also takes a longer wheelbase case to Spain - hopes to move up the order courtesy of its significantly modified package.

The most remarkable dissimilarity on the new engine cover is the air inlet which, instead of being situated directly at the rear the heads of drivers Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher, is now situated further down the top of the car - the idea of such a feature is to reduce the roll hoop in order to allow less air resistance.
