FIA allowed to fit larger fuel tank for Virgin F1

The Formula 1 Governing FIA giving Virgin F1 consent to large size fuel tank on dependability following the new team exposed it may not be big sufficient to get them to the end of the race at some actions.

It has become clear during pre-season testing and our entrance race in Bahrain that our fuel tank capacity is trivial and if not addressed there is the opportunities that fuel pick-up could become a matter in certain situations, give details Virgin technical director Nick Wirth. By teams having to homologate their bodywork this season, the tank changes comprise a major alteration to the VR01 and Virgin do not be expecting to be clever to set up a revised car until the early part of the European season, which starts in May with the Spanish Grand Prix.

We thank the FIA for allowing this modify, sustained Wirth. At the time the design of the tank was locked down in June 2009, its capacity was determined by a number of factors, some of which have since changed, and the tank capacity now needs to be increased accordingly.

The small tank means Virgin could face troubles at this weekend’s Australian GP - where fuel utilization is mainly heavy - and may be forced to wind down engine recital in order to whole the race.
